Prisoners exchanged between Burma and Bangladesh

Burma and Bangladesh exchanged few prisoners in a director level flag meeting held in a border village of Bangladesh on December 10 last, which also witnessed the signing of some agreements by the delegates representing both the neighboring countries, said an official from Burma.

ADB loan for improving Burma’s electrification network

(Guwahati, 10 Dec 2013): The electrification network in Burma (now known as Myanmar) is expected to improve with a $60 million loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB), which has sanctioned the first project loan to the southeast Asian country. The ADB loan, sanctioned after its re-engagement with Myanmar is understood to rehabilitate sections of the country’s power distribution network.

Biman resumes Dhaka- Yangon flight

(Dhaka, 9 December 2013): Regular return lights from Dhaka to Rangoon (Yangon) have started today after seven years of break following the decision of Biman, the national airlines of Bangladesh, to resume the service. The Biman airlines authority had suspended the service in October 2006 because of loss incurred by the flights from the Bangladesh capital city to Burma’s former capital with its same day return journey.

Halt in India-Burma border fencing work

The suspension order from the Union home ministry to the Border Road Organisation on the fencing work came following the allegation that it passes through the Indian land in many points.
